The project in Krosno is one of the most notable investments completed by Unia Grains in recent years. The facility was designed and built for Wipasz, a company that has been developing its operations in animal nutrition and food production since 1994. Wipasz is one of the largest feed producers in Poland and a significant exporter of poultry meat. As a company based on Polish capital, it places strong emphasis on food safety and a modern approach to production.
We have been working with Wipasz for over 20 years, having previously completed facilities in locations such as Zadąbrowie, Wadąg, Koło and Międzyrzec Podlaski. Each new investment expands the client’s infrastructure and responds to their steadily growing production needs.
Two DT5048 dryers – the largest in our offer
As part of the investment in Krosno, two DT5048 dryers were built — the largest units of this type in our portfolio. The first one was commissioned in 2022, and the second was completed in 2025 as part of the site expansion.
Key technical parameters of the DT5048 dryer: • capacity: 1,573 tons of corn per day (each), • height: over 34 m, • filling capacity: 251 tons.
Along with the construction of the second dryer, the first one was modernized so that both operate in the same technological standard, equipped with a dedusting system and fully integrated with the rest of the facility’s infrastructure.
During the project in Krosno, the client prepared the site according to technical guidelines, which — combined with excellent cooperation — allowed a team of around 25 people to complete the installation efficiently and on schedule. The reinforced concrete foundations ensured structural stability for both the dryers and the silos. The entire process took approximately 4–5 months.
An integral part of the site are two SF 27.7/27 silos, each with a total capacity of 19,895 m³ (usable capacity 19,508 m³) and a height of nearly 39 meters. There are also silos from another manufacturer on the premises, operating in a coherent system with the entire drying infrastructure.
Adapting the facility to local conditions
Due to the proximity of residential buildings, the facility in Krosno required the use of solutions that minimize noise and dust emissions. For this reason, the dryers were equipped with a dedusting system based on a water jacket and a water tank operating in a closed-circuit system. These solutions reduce dust emissions to virtually zero.
Additionally, the absence of fans at the top of the dryers significantly reduced noise levels — a crucial factor given the location of the site.
Husk separator – supporting the process
The facility is also equipped with a corn husk separator, which separates husk from water and produces a dry fraction that can be used for further processing, such as pellet production. The separator is integrated with the water system and supports the stable operation of the entire installation.
Experience and technological advancement
Wipasz previously used DS-type dryers, and as production grew, moved to DT technology, ensuring higher efficiency and standardization of processes.
Implementation
Construction of the second dryer began in June 2025. The facility was commissioned on schedule and is now fully operational.
